Players and villagers from Mathuvarayapuram, Devarayapuram, Sangampalayam and Koduvai thronged Devarayapuram in rural Coimbatore for the second round of the Volleyball competition for Isha Gramotsavam Cup, on Sunday.
A festive spirit prevailed at the Government School at Devarayapuram.
On Sunday, the games started at 5.30 a.m. and went on till 7 a.m.
Sangampalayam team beat Devarayapuram in the first game and Mathuvarayapuram beat Koduvai in the second game.
In the final round for the day Mathuvarayapuram beat Sangampalayam to qualify for the quarterfinals, where they will now compete with teams from other districts for the cup at CODISSIA Grounds in Coimbatore on September 4. Apart from volleyball for the men, throwball was conducted for women.
Final round
In the final round of throwball games the Devarayapuram team won against Isha Vidhya team.
Teams that emerged winners in similar competitions that are simultaneously conducted at Tiruchy, Cuddalore, Tirunelveli, Tiruvannamalai, Madurai and Vellore will compete in the event at Coimbatore in the first week of September.
