The Economic Offences Wing of the Coimbatore City Police has arrested a realtor and his assistant on the charges of duping investors.

According to sources, the EOW police had registered a case against Muthukumar (37), who had collected money in instalments from people promising to sell housing plots.

At the time of collecting money he had told the investors that he would sell them plots in Dhaliyur, Karadimadai, Myleripalayam and a few other areas. More than 60 persons had paid monthly instalments.

But a couple of months ago, the investors realised that they had been duped, as Muthukumar had closed his office and switched off his mobile phone.

Muthukumar was traced at a lodge in Coimbatore, where he was reportedly hiding, and also his assistant Sindu Nandhini. They were presented before a court and later sent to the prison in judicial custody.
