Police custody for Hyder Ali

The Crime Branch CID Police have been granted two-day custody of Hyder Ali (45). A special court in the city ordered Ali’s custody based on a petition the police had filed a couple of days ago.

Ali will remain in police custody on Wednesday and Thursday.

The police had told the court that they wanted to probe Ali for his involvement in the case related to concealing explosives and trying to create communal unrest in Ukkadam, following the arrest of Al Umma leader Basha for his role in the Chennai RSS office bomb blast case in 1993.

The police also told the court that he had had a role in the violence that reputed during the Veera Ganesh funeral in the city in 1989. After obtaining bail in both the cases, Ali went underground and had since evaded the law.

After a wait of more than 20 years, the police arrested Ali in Palakkad a few days ago. Meanwhile, the court will take up on June 17 the bail petition filed by Ali.
