Fourth Additional District Judge Vijaya on Tuesday sentenced Sivakumar, a farmer of Rangasamudram near Kottur in Pollachi, to life term on charges of murdering his wife Sowmya on July 2, 2012.
According to prosecution, Sivakumar killed his wife in a fit of rage by hitting her head with an iron rod. In order to escape the clutches of law, the accused was said to have allegedly enacted a drama of a four member gang entering his house and murdering his wife after tying up his hands and legs besides gagging his mouth. However, police grew suspicious and investigations led to the revelation that Sivakumar was the murderer and it was a fall out of a long standing domestic disharmony.
Prosecution registered a case against Sivakumar under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (concealment of evidence/giving false information) of Indian Penal Code. The Judge also awarded three years for concealment of evidence besides a fine of Rs 3,000.
