Jewellery stolen from houses

Seven sovereigns gold jewellery was stolen from a house at Ramalinga Jothi Nagar in Ramanathapuram recently when the occupants of the house had gone to Kerala. The police quoted the complainant B.K. Bose (61) as saying that on returning home on Saturday he found the front door broken open and jewellery stolen from the cupboard.

In another incident, the house of L. Mary (42) at New Golden Nagar in Vadavalli was burgled when the family had gone to Trichy. The Vadavalli Police said that on returning in the late hours of Saturday the family found the house burgled.

Passengers injured

Ten passengers of a private bus, including seven women, were injured as the driver lost control over the bus and it rammed metal pipes alongside the road. The incident occurred near the Narasimhanaickenpalayam Gas Company when the bus was heading to Mettupalayam from Coimbatore. The injured were rushed to nearby private hospitals.

Couple arrested

The Sulur police arrested a couple for allegedly having 1.2 kg ganja in their possession for sale. The accused have been identified as K. Suresh (34) and his wife S. Pandiammal from C. Vadipatty in Madurai who are now residing on Rasipalayam Road at Thennampalayam.

They were booked under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, arrested and also remanded on Saturday.

Protest in Tirupur

Members of Shiva Sena staged a demonstration here on Sunday to protest against cross-border firing and terrorism by Pakistan.

Sena’s district president K. V. Saravanan was of the view that the Indian Government should retaliate to the firings from Pakistan Army.

Burgled

The Tirupur North police are on the lookout for persons who allegedly burgled a shop at Mannarai and decamped with six sovereigns of jewellery and Rs. 3,000 in cash kept on the shop floor. The accused broke open the lock of the shutter to gain entry into the shop on Saturday.
