Chain-snatchers caught red-handed

S. Praveen, 20, and N. Dineshkumar, 21, both from Mettupalayam, were caught red-handed when they attempted to flee after robbing M. Subbulakshmi of her seven-sovereign gold chain at Thimmaiya Goundanpudur, near Karamadai, on Thursday morning.

The Karamadai Police, who have registered a case in this connection, said that the duo, which was on a motorcycle, trailed the woman for a while when she was walking towards her relative’s house and when the road was deserted, confronted her with a knife, took away the chain and attempted to flee. But the woman raised an alarm, hearing which the people nabbed them. The police arrested the duo and sent them for remand.

Electrocuted

Seventy-year-old P. Palaniyammal of Nehru Nagar, Ganapathy, was electrocuted at her house on Thursday morning when the metal hook she used to harvest drumsticks touched an electric wire. She died on the spot, said the Saravanampatty Police, who have registered a case in this connection.

Commits suicide

Under employment drove 26-year-old K. Sabariswaran of Krishnagiri district to commit suicide in Mothirapuram, near Pollachi, on Wednesday evening. The Pollachi East Police, who have registered a case, said that Sabariswaran, who is an M.Sc. graduate, jumped into a well in the village to end his life.

He was doing odd jobs for the past four years. His frustration drove him to end his life, they added.
