A stils from Karva

This has got to be a weekend that people who enjoy the horror genre must be itching to check out two films in the horror genre. While it’s not exactly looking very promising (you’ve got to have seen some of the gory posters plastered all over the city) to know what kind of horror tropes you need to be prepping yourself for.

There’s no way you can get away with wrongdoing. The courts may forgive you, you may have got away, but something’s gonna get you. That’s the idea behind the new horror film all set to release this weekend – Shalini . Word is that the film traces the journey of five couples deep into the forest and in the process, justice reveals itself. From the trailer you can get a fair idea with a good dose of screams, lady in white, a man being dragged up the stairs kind of feel from the film. Debutant director Mallikarjun claims that he’s dealt with a social issue here, and offers his view of can happen to rapists…through this film.

The film stars actors Puneeth, Aravind, Santosh, Anvita, Prema, Kavya, Apurva, Killer Venkatesh, and Manadip Rai. Camera work is by Shyam Sindhur, and the music director is Madhur Naidu. The film is produced by K. Srinivas under the banner of SLV Cinemas.

Karva, meaning an unsolvable mystery, is the other horror-thriller release of the week. It’s the second film from producer Krishna Chaitanya, after his hugely successful first horror attempt 6-5=2. From the slickly cut trailer it does look promising, but then again there is the standard haunted bungalow with the wandering aatma, there is a doll that looks straight out of the Chucky ( Child’s Play ) franchise, so you have been warned.

Karva has been written and directed by debutant Navaneet. Parts of it were shot in Sri Lanka. While Krishna Chaitanya says he tried not to make yet another film in the genre, this one drew him in. The film was also shot in part in Ooty and Mysuru and features Devaraj, Tilak Shekar, RJ Rohit, Anisha Ambros and Anu Povammma, Srinivas Prabhu, Sidlingu Shridhar, and Padmaja Rao among others.
