Help! I have an itching scalp

July 23, 2016 04:40 pm | Updated 04:40 pm IST - Bengaluru

I went swimming and the very next day, and my scalp started itching badly. Please suggest a remedy and please give the recipe for henna mixture, using amla and methi powder.

You may be having an allergic reaction to chlorine, which is present in larger quantities in swimming pool water. First consult a doctor, in case you require medication. Mix water and vinegar in equal quantities, part the hair in sections and apply on the scalp with cotton wool. Or, add two tablespoons vinegar to a mug of water and use as a last rinse after bath. It helps relieve itching. For henna paste, soak a handful of dry amla in four to five cups of water overnight. Next morning, strain it, but do not throw the water away. Grind the amla and add it to the henna powder with four teaspoons each of lemon juice, coffee, one teaspoon methi seed powder, two raw eggs, two teaspoons oil (til oil, olive oil or coconut) and enough amla water, to make a thick paste. If you don’t want to add eggs, add more amla water and one teaspoon more oil. Keep the paste for an hour and apply it on the hair, so that the entire head is covered. Wash off with plain water after an hour.
