After his debut release Power , K.S. Ravindra aka Bobby did not expect to direct Pawan Kalyan in the next project.
He stepped in after Sampat Nandi moved on to do projects for his home banner. Bobby says that he did not take up Sardaar Gabbar Singh this project because he was overawed by the star, who’s also written the story.
He says he already had a few stories ready to take off when this offer fell on his lap. “Pawan Kalyan had his story ready which was waiting to go on floors, I could have said I did not like the story, but the fact is I liked the plot. I also realise it’s no small thing directing a film with Pawan Kalyan and with a title like this… it’s a big challenge,” he says.
The story and screenplay writer-turned-director was initially apprehensive of living up to Pawan’s expectations. “The rapport I had with him, the time I spent with Pawan Kalyan made the work easier. I travelled with him for six months and our relationship was that of two creative minds. Once on the sets, we hardly had time to share a joke and smile. It was serious business.”
Explaining why he had to shoot in the north, Bobby says, “The area we selected has lot of Telugu people. The region is between Chattisgarh, Andhra and Hyderabad. There is a Rajput family and their story has to be in the surrounding area.”
Like the Antakshari number in Gabbar Singh, there’s a track here too that’s going to garner as much attention as the original one, says Bobby. Ask him who is the hero in his next film and he quips, “After this film releases, I want to take a month off. I haven’t rested for a year and a half now.” The film is set for April 8 release.
