Yashvir Singh, the only Indian so far to be named International Wrestling Federation (FILA) Coach of the Year in 2010, is privileged to get trainees of the class of Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt and Amit Kumar.
“For a coach, these are God’s gift,” says Yashvir, also a Dronacharya Award winner.
“Amit is a talented kid. Defence is his biggest weapon. He knows when to attack. His willpower is the most striking aspect of his personality,” he says.
“Yogeshwar came in as a reclusive village boy, but soon won everyone’s heart with his skills and talent. He is disciplined and determined. The way he fought back to climb the podium in the London Olympics is quite remarkable.”
As for Sushil Kumar, Yashvir comments, “Sushil is the true icon of the sport. He is amazingly disciplined and never misses practice. His biggest quality is he is not very aggressive. He conserves his energy and applies his mind to snatch points. He keeps track of other wrestlers around the world.”
