Taste of two states

Savour the taste of true blue Telugu cuisine at Haritha Plaza

May 22, 2014 08:43 pm | Updated 09:20 pm IST - Hyderabad:

So, your husband wants biryani while you want to have idiyappam with Kuragkayala Pulusu ? And another day when you feel like having keema pulao , your friend wants Deccani dal with Shermal ? Tastes and cravings of two individuals usually don’t go hand in hand. To meet such conflicting cravings and to ensure good time for family, friends and colleagues, the AP Tourism department offers something new for diners, right in the heart of the city. Situated at Haritha Plaza (also known as Paryatak Bhavan) Plaza Fiesta is a fine dining restaurant serving Deccan and southern speciality.

This is not to be confused with the all-day dining on the third floor of the complex. Plaza Fiesta is on the ground floor with an entry adjacent to the ticketing floor of the complex.

Interiors done to suit the theme of the food served, the restaurant — a 200-seater place has a cosy feel with soft music and comfortable seating arrangements for diners. If the ceiling has Kalamkari panel, the walls are adorned with 3-D mural work by Aziz. The mural reflects the heritage of the city and pays tribute to what the Deccan landscape is most famous for — its rock formations.

From décor to the food, the restaurant has two types of menu to cater to the palate. In no way has the restaurant thought of diluting the signature theme by including any other cuisines other than south Indian.

There are plenty of starters to choose from. As far as the Deccan speciality menu is concerned, the chef is very proud of the Deccani Pompfert — a mildly marinated fish cooked in the tandoor and yet succulent and juicy. As far as meat is concerned, it will not disappoint you with the choice and spread.

The veg starters are fewer in comparison to the non-veg starters but the variety is unusual — rajma aur kacche kele ki tiiki, zafrani paneer and subz til tikki . The varieties of dal too sound promising if one is looking to try shudh ghar ka khana .

The choice lies between deccani dal , dal baba khan and kaddu ka dalcha . The kacche gosht ki biryani and the tarkari biryani is a must try. For desserts try the sheer khurma for a change.

The southern speciality menu also has a good variety to make it a one stop spot for authentic southern dishes. The menu, however, doesn’t have too many dishes from Tamil Nadu and Kerala. As for Telugu cuisine, there is plenty to offer on the the menu.

For starters, their M asala kodi vepudu is mouth watering. Since it is Naatu kodi (country chicken) one will not find the meat as soft as broiler chicken. But that’s how Naatu kodi is meant to be.

There are a variety of fried fish and vegetable dumplings among the starters. The main course has dishes like Ananpakai Majjiga pulusu, Muvva Vankaya, Teepi pulusu, mudda pappu, beerakaya palu etc.
