Most music aficionados in the city are familiar with the ‘Vithala Vithala’ chants that are not only heard at namasankeertanams but also at kutcheris.

Now comes the event that celebrates the glory of the Lord of Pandharpur every year through special thematic concerts. Titled ‘Vithala Vithala’ it features leading vocalists Aruna Sairam, Jayateerth Mevundi and Ganesh Kumar. The programme to be held today and on May 8 at Narada Gana Sabha will begin with Aruna Sairam’s ‘Manifestations of Krishna’ at 6 p.m. On May 8, Jayateerth will present ‘Kannadavu Vithalu’ at 10 a.m. and at 6 p.m., Ganesh Kumar of the varkari sampradaya will present ‘Pandhari – Naamacha Bazaar’. The lamp will be lighted on the inaugural day by mridangam vidwan Umayalpuram Sivaraman and, on the concluding day, by Swami Nirajanandagiri.
