DJ Missill, The Super-Heroine seems to be the perfect stage name for Emilie. Missill is the French word for missile. Emilie acquired the stage name improvised after her graffiti work. “I am very passionate about music. I can sense it everywhere and I might not have been alive if music had not been with me,” she says.

The vivacious DJ, who was in town for a performance at The Humming Tree, says her trip to India was fraught with high drama as a few days before her trip, her handbag with all documents were stolen. “This show was supposed to happen three weeks ago but everything got delayed. I applied for my passport, got it done in 15 days and finally reached India. I got a wonderful offer after everything was sorted out but I did not want to miss this tour, so I refused it and came here and I don’t regret my decision.”

Missill has played over 800 gigs in more than 35 countries and has shared stage with big names such as DJ Premier, Rye Rye, Dynamite MC and Shadow Dancer. After the gig in Bangalore, the French DJ is going home to play at an AIDS Charity event.

Her India tour included a stop at Delhi and she is also playing in Kathmandu. “People believe that Indian music is only Bollywood but I was stunned by the level of music technology and DJs here. India is definitely not lagging behind.”

Talking about her journey, Missill says: “My career started like a rocket. After my first gig, I had many offers. I played for a crowd of more than 20,000 people but then everything turned upside down.”

She had no work for a while but then gradually things started falling in line and she got back to her career. “Life of an artist is full of upheavals and it is important that we don’t lose hope.”

Music is an integral part of her life. “I can feel music everywhere. That is why I do not prefer going to crowded places because I hear a lot of things, ideas just start flashing in my mind and I get confused.”

She wants to make the world a better place with her music. “My ultimate goal is to get painters, musicians and artists from all around the world, make a team and spread the message of peace and love.”
