In one of the rooms inside the hostel of the School of Drama and Fine Arts, Thrissur, actors Vinay Forrt and Mythili are having an animated discussion for the camera. After canning a few shots, the crew get ready for some close ups. It’s one of the scenes from God Say , directed by Sherrey Govindan and Shyju Govind.

Period tale

“The story is set in the early 1990s. Harischandran (Vinay Forrt) is an announcer at All India Radio. He is a drunkard who is in love with Magdalena Gomez (Mythili), a student of theatre. In the scene being canned, Harischandran is at the hostel to meet her,” explain the directors.

Sherrey was the director of Adimadhyantham . This movie is an attempt to tackle a serious theme with a touch of humour. Harischandran’s life takes an abrupt turn when he is asked by the station director Mehboob Khan (Joy Mathew) to present a programme called ‘Gandhi Margam’. He is given a copy of Mahatma Gandhi’s autobiography, My Experiments with Truth . After a series of incidents, he decides to read the book and it has a tremendous impact on him. The political and social developments of those times are shown in the backdrop of the film.”

Says Vinay Forrt: “My character is an anarchist. The film shows his transformation and the changes in his life and outlook.” His role as a professor in the blockbuster Premam has won him accolades and popularity. Vinay is basking in the newfound attention. He says: “I am delighted by the response. I hope the appreciation I have received for the film finds viewers accepting my roles in small budget films.”

Leading lady Mythili plays a character who is obsessed with the characters she plays on stage.

“Each time she is shown on screen, she behaves like the character that she is performing at that time,” says Mythili.

God Say is being produced under the banner of Snehanjali. Cinematography is by Jaleel Badusha.
