On the banks of Pushkar

August 25, 2016 04:50 pm | Updated 04:50 pm IST

Sampoorna Yajurveda Paarayanam is taking place on September 9 and 10 at Pushkar in Rajasthan. A team of Sanskrit pandits will leave for the place, renowned for its lake, referred to as the birthplace of Veda Matha Gayatri.

The chanting will take place right on the banks of Pushkar lake, called Tirth Raj, a dip in which is high on a pilgrim’s list. Pushkar is also the location where Brahma discovered Devi Gayatri and the water body is worshipped as a manifestation of Maha Vishnu. Semi-circular in shape, Pushkar Lake is surrounded by 52 bathing ghats and over 400 temples and is truly a magnificent sight to behold.

Even as the Veda chanting is on, groups of people will perform Sahasra Gayatri Japa and chant Vishnusahasranamam.

How to reach Pushkar:

Sanganer airport in Jaipur is the nearest, at a distance of 140 km by road. Pushkar is well connected to the national highways of Rajasthan. Regular buses ply from Pushkar to the major cities of Jaipur, Jodhpur and Ajmer. Ajmer railway station is 30 km from Pushkar.
