Harshita, a disciple of Ananda Shankar Jayanth, presented a Bharatanatyam recital at Shilpakala Vedika in Madhapur. Equipped with the vast experience of performing with her guru within and outside the country, Harshita impressed the audience with her crisp jatis and in-depth abhinaya.
She danced to pre-recorded music with vocalist Venumadhav rendering almost all the compositions but for Jayadeava Dasavatara Ashtapadi.
Harshita started with the traditional Pushpanjali, followed by ‘Ganesha Vandanam’, a Oothukadu Vankata Kavi composition where he describes Vinayaka as ‘Nartana Ganapathi’.
As the pallavi line goes Anandanartana Ganapathi Bhavaye , the devotee’s imagination of Nartana Ganapathi was brought out by Harshita in her presentation. Venumadhav’s rendition of the number too carried its sahitya import.
Harishita then chose to present Dasavataras as presented in the lyrics of Jayadeva’s ‘Geetha Govindam’. This number was rendered by noted vocalist Prema Ramamurthy with perfect expression of Sanskrit sahitya.
The pallavi line Pralaya Payodha Jale with description of the avataras in charanas revealing what the avatara meant, was presented with apt posturing and when it comes to naming the avatara she took care to express it through her abhinaya matching to the sahitya. Each of the avatara presentation was spaced with jati presentation, a fine rhythmic exercise.
The final number of Harshita’s dance recital was on Siva; Adbhuta Natanam Aadene in Latangi, well rendered by Venumadhav intensifying its appeal.
