Satyajit Dhananjayan and Anusha Natarajan will pay a tribute to poet and composer Periyasamy Thooran on his 108th birth anniversary by revisiting a 42-year-old production. Staged originally by Shanta and V.P. Dhananjayan, ‘Kaadal Valli Kanda Murugan’ is being revived to showcase the beauty of Thooran’s songs. It will be staged on September 26 (7 p.m.) at Rukmini Arangham, Kalakshetra. It has music by Turaiyur Rajagopala Sharma and Madurai Sethuraman. “Though we have retained the essence and spirit of the original, subtle changes have been brought in such as cutting down on duration, to suit today’s audience,” says Satyajit. “There can be no better way to remember the power of Thooran’s words and expressions than this production of my parents,” he adds. Featuring senior students of the Dhananjayans, it is being jointly presented by Periyasamy Thooran Tamil Music Trust and Bharatakalanjali.
