When music is for a cause, it lends more soul to the swaras, which is what Aikya’s annual shows are about. An initiative of the multiple service provider Global Adjustments, this year’s performance will be based on the theme ‘Mandodari meets Sita’.

The concert to be held on March 11 at The Music Academy brings together two classical styles represented by two young vocalists — Sanjeev Abhayankar (Hindusthani) and Abhishek Raghuram (Carnatic). Sanjeev, a well-known disciple of the legendary Pt. Jasraj, learnt the nuances of his art by staying with his guru. Though Sanjeev imbibed his guru’s bani, he developed his own style and has been performing all over the world.

Grandson of mridangam maestro Palghat Ragu, Abhishek Raghuram has established himself in a short period of time and is today counted among the front-ranking vocalists. His alapanas and swaraprastharas are imaginative and power-packed.

Besides giving the audience a peek into their repertoire, the artists will come together to perform a few compositions.

The theme of Aikya 2016 is centered around an imaginary conversation between two women from the Ramayana: Sita, the wife of Rama, and Mandodari, the wife of Ravana. This fictitious dialogue, much of which reflects on relationships, sets the stage for the concert that raises funds to support retired artists and technical education for underprivileged girls.

The concert has been designed by Sai Shravanam and Rajkumar Bharathi, a classical singer and music composer, who is the great grandson of the revolutionary poet Subramanya Bharati.

The concert will be held on March 11 at The Music Academy at 7.30 p.m.
