Every day, Miraya, Meera, Ishan and Valena, look forward to the ride back home. For, they travel together in the same vehicle, as part of a car pooling arrangement.
The four, Class II students at Kids Central School, Kotturpuram, have been carpooling, as their parents decided on a carpooling arrangement the first year their wards went to school.
“As all of us live in the same area, we decided to form a carpooling group,” says Riddhi Bisani, mother of Valena.
The four children and their families stay in Nungambakkam.
“We knew we wanted at least one parent to be with the children during the pick-up time, so all the mothers take turns,” says Riddhi.
The mothers have noticed the carpooling system having a positive effect on the children.
“The four have become such good friends and look forward to spending the ride back home together, sharing snacks and playing games in the car,” says Riddhi.
It also makes sense economically and environmentally, they say.
