Ford India said it will recall 42,300 Figo and Figo Aspire cars to fix a possible software glitch that could result in the airbags not deploying in accidents. The “voluntary recall” will cover Figo hatchbacks and Figo Aspire compact sedans built at the company’s plant in Sanand, Gujarat, until April 12 and is intended to rectify a problem with the restraint control module. “The affected vehicles may contain a software error, which could result in the airbags not deploying in certain collisions in which they are intended to deploy,” the automaker said in an e-mailed statement.
Owners of Figo and Figo Aspire cars will have a software upgrade carried out free of charge through their Ford dealership, the company said adding that corrective action had already been carried out on all vehicles of the affected models presently at dealerships. This had resulted in the resumption of deliveries to customers, Ford said.
