4G rollout will drive tablet market in India: Samsung

The company launches its slimmest tablet Galaxy Tab S2. The tablet, priced at Rs.39,400, will be available for sale from Wednesday.

Korean mobile devices manufacturer Samsung on Wednesday said the pan-India rollout of 4G technology would boost the tablet market in India. The company also felt that introduction of multi-media in education, financial services; on mobile government services would also propel the demand for tablets in India.

“We believe that, with the adoption of 4G services and roll out of 4G to more towns there will be a surge in the tablet sales. There are many affordable devices with 4G LTE technology in the market.

“With more 4G enabled services getting launched people will start using it,” said Manu Sharma, Director-Product Marketing, Samsung India Electronics.

According to Samsung, it had around 42 per cent market share in value terms in the Indian tablet market. The tablet market in India which was witnessing a negative growth was slowly gaining momentum.

A recent report from market research firm Cybermedia Research said tablet shipment in India grew 16.4 per cent to 1.07 million units in the April-June 2015 quarter. According to various reports around 1,78,000 units are sold in India.

Unveils new tablet

In a move to grow the tablet business, Samsung on Wednesday announced the launch of its slimmest tablet Galaxy Tab S2. The tablet will be available for sale across all retail outlets from Wednesday and is priced at Rs.39,400. The new tab comes with a 9.7 inch Super AMOLED display version with Wi-FI and LTE, with Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system. The tablet has 32GB inbuilt memory and can be expandable up to 128GB with external storage.

The phone, which is manufactured at its manufacturing facility in Noida will come in three colours Gold, Black and White. As part of the launch Samsung will offer 2GB free Airtel 4G data per month and in the Galaxy Tab S2 comes preloaded with Galaxy Gifts worth over Rs.31,000.
