Watch as one of New York's oldest bridges goes out with a bang in thunderous demolition

New York City's 78-year-old Kosciuszko Bridge between Brooklyn and Queens was blown up with a controlled demolition.

Over 900 explosives brought down the 20 remaining steel truss spans.

The eastbound span of the new Kosciuszko Bridge opened in April, the second span is scheduled to be finished by 2020.

The old Kosciuszko Bridge opened in 1939. It's named after Tadeusz Kosciuszko, a military engineer from Poland who came to fight for the independence of the American colonies.
