An enormous Great Dane called Freddy is officially a record-breaker after being crowned the world’s tallest living dog.

The gigantic pet measures 1.035m (3ft 4.75 in) tall and lives with owner Claire Stoneman in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex.

“As a puppy, he was the runt of the litter, I actually got him a couple of weeks early than I should have done as he wasn't feeding off mum,” she explained. “I had no idea he was going to get this big at all.”

She spends a whopping £10,000 per year on food for her pets, explaining: “Every day he has 1kg of minced beef, 250 grams of casserole steak and about 300 grams of liver.”

Freddy and his sister, Fleur, have also destroyed an incredible 26 sofas: “They were eating them when they were puppies, until they were about 12 or 15, just blatantly chewing and destroying them while I was out working.

“He loves a paw massage … he’s just a big hunk of love.”

The tallest dog ever is Zeus, another Great Dane who measured 1.118 m (44in) tall and lived in Michigan. He died just before his sixth birthday in 2014.

Guinness World Records 2018 is out now.
