UK weather forecast: Sunny spells and showers for most of Britain

Most parts of England and Wales will have a mix of sunny spells and showers today, the showers mainly affecting Wales and the South West at first but becoming fairly widespread in the afternoon.

Scotland will be cloudy and wet in the south but drier and brighter in the north. Most parts of Ireland will be dry but there will be a few showers here too.

Tonight, the weather will be rather cloudy in Scotland with outbreaks of rain, mainly in the east. There will be a few showers across England and Wales during the night, but most places will be dry with clear periods. Ireland will be mainly dry but rather cloudy, and a few showers are possible in the east and the south-west.

London

It will be bright with sunny spells and showers, heavy during the afternoon. Light and scattered showers through the evening. Moderate southerly winds. Max temp 17-20C (63-68F).

Berkshire/Surrey/Hampshire

It will be mostly cloudy and grey with scattered showers, many of which will be on the heavy side. Scattered light showers are possible during the evening. Gentle southerly winds. Feeling cool for July. Max temp 15-18C (59-64F).

Somerset/Dorset/Devon/Cornwall 

It will be bright with sunny spells, but also showers, many of which will be rather heavy in nature. Showers will ease and turn lighter through the evening. Cool with a fresh south-westerly wind. Max temp 14-17C (57-63F).

Lancashire/Merseyside

It will be bright with sunny spells and scattered showers. These will mostly fall during the afternoon. Heavier showers in places by evening. Light southerly winds. Max temp 17-20C (63-68F).

Yorkshire/Humberside/Northumberland

It is expected to be bright with sunshine, but also showers, heavy for a while during the morning. Moderate easterly winds. Max temp 19-22C (66-72F).

Central/Edinburgh/Fife/Tayside

It is expected to be cloudy with a few showers in the morning and the chance of patchy light rain in places after midday. Moderate north-easterly winds. Max temp 14-17C (57-63F).

South Wales

It is expected to be bright with some sunshine, but there will also be scattered showers around. Gentle south-easterly winds. Max temp 15-18C (59-64F).

North Wales

Dry at first. It is then going to be bright with sunshine and showers, heavy for a time and slow-moving. Light south-easterly winds. Max temp 16-19C (61-66F).

Northern Ireland

It is going to be generally dry but rather cloudy. There is the small chance of a shower. A few light showers are likely through the evening. Gentle northerly winds. Max temp 17-20C (63-68F).

What will the weather be like tomorrow and Monday?

Tomorrow will see further showers and rain across most parts of England, Wales and Scotland, although northern Scotland will remain largely dry. Ireland will be cloudy with a few scattered showers.

Monday is expected to be a largely dry day with cloud breaking up somewhat and most areas seeing the sun.
