Italian police will now look uber stylish while catching criminals after adding a new Lamborghini supercar to their fleet.

The new Huracan was donated to the Italian State Police by Lamborghini and unveiled at a presentation ceremony at the Interior Ministry in Rome.

While British police have to rely on more modest patrol cars, their Italian counterparts can now speed through the streets in a luxurious 450kW vehicle.

The supercar, set to be used by a police highway patrol team in Bologna, also features on-board recording equipment and a security camera.

It will be used for the “urgent transport of blood and organs” and day-to-day police operations.

“An essential task of the Huracan Polizia is to provide medical assistance,” Lamborghini said.

“To this end, the luggage compartment at the front of the vehicle hosts a special refrigeration system for the urgent transport of organs to be transplanted.

“To provide emergency first aid to the injured, the Huracan is also equipped with a defibrillator, which can save lives.”

It sports the official colours of the Italian Police, with the “white areas and lettering specially executed to match the Huracan’s dynamic look”, Lamborghini said.

“As is true for the standard model, the Huracan Polizia is equipped with an aspirated V10 that produces 610 HP, as well as all-wheel drive and a hybrid chassis made of aluminium and carbon fibre,” the Italian luxury car manufacturer added.

“These outstanding characteristics ensure extreme performance and maximum stability, even at very high speeds.”

Another Huracan has been operated by the Highway Patrol in Rome since 2015
