'Kung fu grandma', 94, shows off her martial arts skills

It is often advised one remains active as one ages. However, this 94-year-old grandma has taken this to the next level.

Zhang Hexian, from China, has been wowing spectators around the world with her fantastic kung fu skills.

Her favoured weapon is a stick, but she is equally good with her feet and fists.

Despite her age, the sprightly woman from Dongyuan village still teaches her craft and is described by her students as "wing-footed".

And she certainly has a lot of experience; she started learning kung fu when she was just four years old, so has been practising the martial art for nine decades.

Ms Hexian is still fighting fit and said her skills have contributed to that.

She keeps a regular routine to make sure she keeps her skills and fitness.

The grandmother enjoys teaching the skill to others and can be seen laughing as she instructs others.

She also claims her talent "enabled her to challenge the local bully and put other rascals in their place".

The kung fu grandma has passed on her skills to her family, including her son and great-granddaughter.

She told China.org.cn that she once came across a man beating his wife.

She said: "I was so angry that I rushed to them and hit the man on his chest".

However, she didn't learn the craft in order to be violent.

"Our ancestors instructed that we learn kung fu for defence and to help others, not to bully others," she said.
