Lord Pannick QC, 52, is a veteran of hundreds of cases in the House of Lords, the UK Supreme Court and the Privy Council.

A Liberal Democrat supporter who has represented both Labour and Conservative governments in court, he became a non-party-political member of the House of Lords in 2008,

Mr Pannick has acted for the Queen in obtaining an injunction against the Daily Mirror to prevent publication of information obtained by a journalist who had posed as a Royal servant.

He also acted for for Diana, Princess of Wales in an unfair dismissal claim brought by one of her servants; and for the Home Secretary in relation to sentences on Myra Hindley and the boys who killed the toddler, James Bulger.

He was left with three teenage children when his first wife died of cancer. He remarried and now has three young children.

Jeremy Wright QC, 44, personally led the Government's legal team in the High Court's hearing of the Article 50 litigation.

Mr Wright was only made a QC when he became Attorney General two years ago. He was elected the Conservative MP for Kenilworth and Southam in 2010.

The married father of two campaigned for Britain to remain in the European Union, before the in/out referendum on June 23.

Last month he faced pressure to resign after he lost the case which looks set to give MPs and peers a veto over when Brexit begins.

However questions were asked because Mr Wright was not seen at the High Court in London when the ruling was handed down by the Lord Chief Justice.

Tory MPs also said he should be replaced with a more experienced lawyer.

Number 10 insisted that Mrs May had confidence in Mr Wright despite the legal setback which risks delaying the triggering of Article 50 by months.
