They were the golden couple of the Olympic games, delighting fans with their success on the bike and their blossoming romance off the track.

But Laura Trott and Jason Kenny were not at Tuesday’s Olympic parade in central London - because they are enjoying their honeymoon after marrying at the end of September.

More than 350 Olympic and Paralympic athletes were expected at the ‘Heroes’ Return’ parade in London, but Trott and Kenny, who boast 10 Olympic medals between them, are instead enjoying their motorhome holiday with their dogs Sprolo and Pringle.

In a message posted on Instagram, Trott wrote: “Brilliant to see everyone turning out to support Team GB today at the parades.

“We would have loved to have been there but are away on honeymoon. Thanks to everyone for their amazing support pre, during and post games! Meant a huge amount to us.”

Accompanying the message were a series of pictures of the cycling pair, including one of the couple wearing matching "wife" and "hubby" t-shirts.

Sharing Trott’s post on Twitter, Kenny added: “It’s a motorhomeymoon”.

The Olympians married in a private ceremony in Cheshire last month, with Kenny announcing the news by tweeting a picture of his new wife, who became Britain’s most successful female Olympian by winning two gold medals in Rio, in bed with the two dogs.

They had declined an offer to have their wedding featured in a magazine and were able to keep the ceremony a secret until it happened.

They also missed a parade in Manchester on Monday, when two self-confessed “blaggers” were able to bluff their way onto a float full of Olympic champions after pretending to be part of the Team GB fencing team.
