Olympic rower Helen Glover celebrated her hen do last night in Rio learning to samba with her friends from Team GB.

The double Olympic champion is due to marry television wildlife presenter Steve Backshall in Cornwall next month.

The 43-year-old, who said he cried when he proposed to Glover, has travelled to Rio to watch the Games with his fiancee.

Ms Glover and her rowing partner Heather Stanning made history last Friday, when the West Country duo became the first female British athletes to win back-to-back Olympic gold medals - in their 39th consecutive win.

Last night, Ms Glover, from Newlyn, Cornwall, tweeted a picture of her and other female Team GB rowers from Brazil, tagging her fiance in the post.

Ms Glover, 30, wrote: "A hen do in Rio with the rowing girls... what could go wrong?!"

The group were photographed with champagne flutes, L plates and tiaras, with a view of the city in the background.

Later, the athlete tweeted that the hens were learning how to samba in the Brazilian capital.
