She has never been known for shying away from the glare of the spotlight.

And Mariah Carey continued to hold centre stage even when on holiday - with the staff at a restaurant in Italy playing her music, so she could enter a restaurant to the strains of her own song.

The singer, 46, has been holidaying with her fiancé James Packer, a billionaire Australian tycoon, off the island of Capri. The pair, accompanied by her five-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe, have been sailing on his yacht, Arctic P.

And on Sunday, accompanied by a 10-strong entourage, the couple arrived for dinner at the Ristorante Aurora at 11pm – with the staff blasting out her music to announce her arrival.

She literally had an entrance song,” a diner told The New York Post gossip column, Page Six.

The source told the paper that Carey was “charismatic,” telling stories to a group that included Uma Thurman’s ex, Arki Busson.

The diner said that Carey’s songs played all night.

At one point, when someone at her table shouted, “Hey, let’s put on something more upbeat,” the staff played her hit Fantasy – sending the table into a frenzy.

The paper reported that the diner said it seemed like her entourage “brought the playlist and asked the restaurant to play it.”

The witness added: “She was in a great mood and was nice to everyone, even posing for some pictures with some kids.”

The Telegraph has asked Carey's publicist for comment.

Later the couple were pictured dancing at the Vv  Club on the island, seemingly oblivious to the attention generated by the singer - one of the best-selling recording artists of all time.
