Pippa Middleton has reportedly become engaged to her hedge fund manager boyfriend James Matthews during a romantic break in the Lake District.
The Duchess of Cambridge’s younger sister kept her left hand hidden behind her back in pictures as she attended a summer party on Monday night to raise funds for the Miles Frost Fund. The charity was set up in aid of Sir David Frost’s son who died of heart failure last year aged 31.
While her ring finger was not visible as she posed with Princess Eugenie at the event at Burton Court in Chelsea, west London, it was rumoured last night that Mr Matthews had popped the question.
She is said to have accepted Mr Matthew’s proposal at the weekend after he presented her with a diamond ring.
The couple have been an item since last year and were seen together at this year’s Wimbledon Championships.
Mr Matthews, 40, asked Miss Middleton’s father for permission before he proposed, the Daily Mail reported, because he is a “traditionalist” and “wanted to do things properly”.
The Chelsea-based millionaire is believed to have taken holidays with 32-year-old Miss Middleton in the Caribbean, where his parents own a hotel on St Barts.
Before they became a couple, the pair were known to be friends. He was pictured with her at a society wedding three years ago.
In an unusual move, earlier this year Prince Harry forced a newspaper to retract claims of a “secret romance” between him and Miss Middleton.
He contacted the press watchdog to say the story was “completely untrue”.
Pippa Middleton, aunt to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s children Prince George and Princess Charlotte, has described her nephew as a “very dear boy” who has brought “pleasure and fun” to the whole family.
She gained instant fame when she was a bridesmaid for her sister at the royal wedding in 2011, wearing a figure-hugging white dress.
The Telegraph approached representatives for Miss Middleton for comment.
