Manchester United and England international midfielder, Wayne Rooney’s seven-year-old son Kai is reportedly training with rival club Manchester City. Kai who is Wayne Rooney’s eldest son had been playing for the Red Devils development team since the start of October but reports from Sportsmail suggest that Kai is now playing at City Football Academy and has already impressed the coaches.

Kai’s father, Wayne Rooney, and grandfather were amongst the onlookers as Kai went through training drills. According to Sportsmail, Wayne Rooney surprised many parents who came to watch their children play and who are part of the City Under-7s squad in recent weeks.

The Red Devils captain happily interacted with the parents during the whole training session. Sportsmail spoke to one of the coaches who stated that young players do not always get to play in their favourite position as many professional clubs like to try different things.

"Most of them want to be a No 9, but it’s all about them enjoying their football at this age,’ one coach told Sportsmail.

"You are not looking to see if they are a centre-forward or a holding midfielder, but can they play with their head up? Are they two footed? How do they pass? Can they listen and learn?

"Our people are trained on what to look out for, although it’s too early to find out if you have the next Rooney or Steven Gerrard."Every club is looking for young English talent. I recently lost two players to bigger clubs. It’s a fact of life at this age."

According to the rules of the Premier League, professional clubs cannot sign players until they turn nine years old. Most youngsters tend to play for academies before choosing their preferred team.

Kai, the oldest of Rooney’s children, has two other siblings, three-year-old Klay and Kit, who is just ten months old.

It’s not just Rooney kids who have trained at City’s headquarters but several other footballer’s children like Philip Neville, Robin Van Persie, and Darren Fletcher.

Rooney and Manchester United will be in action on 17 December against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.
