TAL Season 3: Gameweek 11 Review

Nischal Naidu scored a crucial goal for Project 7 against Gremio FC

Joras end season on a high

Joras were on the right side of yet another goal-fest as they ran out winners in a 5-3 victory over FC Lawless. While it was FC Lawless who actually went ahead in the 5th minute, Joras equalised quickly to bring the game back in the balance. But all the action was reserved for the second half as the teams were locked at half-time. After the resumption though, Joras quickly took their lead and then doubled it within the 37th minute.

Just when Lawless looked down and out, they produced two goals in three minutes to make it 3-3 with 20 minutes to play. But Varun helped Joras retake the lead in a frantic last few minutes and Achyuta put the tie beyond doubt with a last minute goal. Lawless end the season in 11th place whereas Joras finish the season in 7th position.

Score: Joras (5) – (3) FC Lawless

Project 7 stun Gremio to leave them in tatters

Gremio FC’s hopes of continuing on from their stellar comeback against Yataghan were dashed as Project 7 ended the season strongly, just the way they started it. Project 7 were up in the game as early as the 3rd minute, but Satish Kumar levelled things up in the 6th minute. As in the game before this, the teams were locked at 1-1 at halftime but immediately after the break,

Anirudh put Project 7 ahead and Nischal looked to have secured the game with a 40th-minute goal. Javi Cabrera sparked hopes of a comeback with a 51st-minute goal but Gremio could not replicate their stirring last ten minutes in the previous game as Project 7 held on. Prithvi Sagar scored his second just before the final whistle to hand Gremio their 7th defeat of the season.

Gremio finish in 9th place, just above the drop zone and will need to assess their dismal performance this season in preparation for Season 4. Project 7 are currently in 5th place but may drop down a couple of spots based on results in the final day of the season.

Gremio FC (2) – (4) Project 7

Spartans meet their match on Brunton (Road)

A much changed FC Sparta Bengaluru side could only manage to draw against opponents FC Brunton in the third game of the day. With nothing much at stake for both sides, FC Sparta decided to test the depth in their squad by fielding almost a second-11. That experiment seemed to have worked when Obul Reddy put them ahead in the 15th minute. But Divij Muthappa brought Brunton back on level terms 6 minutes later.

As the game wore on, it was, in fact Brunton that had the better of the chances but the deadlock was not broken until the final whistle. In the end, it was a fair result between two evenly matched teams although Brunton were the ones with the better chances. Sparta finish the season in 6th, quite an achievement for a team in its debut season whereas Brunton finish in 8th position, a disappointing end to a season that promised much.

Score: FC Brunton (1) – (1) FCB Sparta

Kougen Kikou dance past Samba

FC Kougen Kikou picked up their fourth win on the bounce when they swept aside a Samba FC side now in the playoff spot to decide if they can stay in Division 1 next season. Kougen Kikou were always going to be the favourites for this one, going by current form, the players they have at their disposal and Samba’s lack of goals going forward. Much of what was expected transpired three of the best midfielders in the Japanese side,

Yuichi Hirai, Yasuhiro Nishino and the electric Hiroki Akiyama all got on the scoresheet to hand Samba their sixth defeat of the season. Based on Yataghan’s result next week, FCKK will finish either in 7th or 8th place, quite an achievement considering they were languishing in 11th place mid-way through the season. But, this is something we have come to expect from the Japanese side over the past two seasons too.

What can be stated though, is that they have a team good enough to challenge the best sides in the league and maybe they will consider doing that from next season. Samba though, will need to wait till the playoff to see what fate has in store for them and which Division they will be playing their football next season.

Score: FC Kougen Kikou (3) – (0) Samba FC

Diablos scare the devil out of Kudlu

Diablos FC may have been denied promotion for the second season in a row but they were not going to let that bog them down as they thrashed a hapless FC Kudlu side by five goals. This game was sealed by half time as Diablos were three goals to the good, thanks to strikes from Rahul Bajaj, Chirag Patel and Siddhartha Mandanna.

John Kunnath and Tushar Das scored in the second half of the game to condemn FC Kudlu to their seventh defeat of the season. Diablos are currently in 4th place but are the only team in the top 5 who have completed their full quota of games. A win for Titans in their final game will see Diablos drop down to 5th place. FC Kudlu though are in 9th place and may drop down a place of Grasshoppers manage to win their game in hand.

Score: Diablos FC (5) – (0) FC Kudlu
