Rumour: Barcelona starlet Munir being eyed up by Tottenham Hotspur

Muni might leave Camp Nou

The transfer window is a few days away from being shut but Tottenham Hotspur still have reason to believe that they can pull off one more coup before the end of the window. Munir has been a bit part player at Barca for the last couple of seasons.

Luis Enrique is also looking to bring in a back-up forward to his three kings which will push him further down the pecking order. There have been reports saying the club have told Munir of his current situation and have asked him to find a new club to get more game time.

The forward just signed a new deal a month ago with the new contract extension lasting until 2019. But that might prove to be irrelevant, if Barcelona are planning to bring a new forward in the coming days.

Tottenham have made two major signings this summer with Vincent Janssen and Victor Wanyama joining the ranks. Mauricio Pochettino is looking to add one more signing before the window closes and is keenly looking at Munir as the ideal buy.

Munir has only received limited game time in the past two seasons but shows a lot of promise. But with Messi, Suarez and Neymar in the side, it is unrealistic to expect the youngster to try and earn a regular spot at the club.

Munir has so far made 25 appearances for the club since 2014 scoring 4 times. The numbers clearly show how underused he has been and yet when he’s played it’s clear why Barcelona got him to sign a new contract.

The club would prefer to loan out Munir, and will only sell him for a price of €15 million with a buy-back option. According to Sport, Valencia is the club the Catalans want to loan him to, with the plan of using him to bring Paco Alcacer to the Camp Nou.

Few other Premier League clubs were also interested in the youngster but were refusing to pay the asking price set by the club. Spurs came very close to winning the league last season only to suffer a meltdown at the final hurdle.

Pochettino wants to ensure he has a strong enough team this season to once again challenge for that coveted crown. Pochettino started Janssen and Kane together in their previous game against Crystal Palace and spoke about having options to avoid becoming predictable.

Munir’s versatility is something that will add more depth to Spurs’ as an attacking force and could be a signing that changes the outcome of their season.
