Former Chelsea winger and Delhi Dynamos’ marquee player for the upcoming ISL season Florent Malouda believes his former coach Jose Mourinho will bring success back to Manchester United. The club is without a Premier League title in the post Sir Alex Ferguson-era whilst also failing to qualify for the Champions League for the second time in the last three seasons.

This abomination of what many Manchester United fans consider the ‘natural order’, has cost the jobs of two imminent managers viz. David Moyes and Louis van Gaal as they failed to appease the insatiable crave for winning at Old Trafford. And thus, at the beginning of this season, the reins of the team were handed over to Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho has already tasted success in the Premier League, having won 3 titles with Chelsea in two different stints at the club. And this season, he signed for one of their bitter rivals Manchester United. The Frenchman who was brought over to England by the ‘Special One’ in 2007 in what was to be one of his final signings at the club before being sacked for the first time. Malouda, however, stayed on at the club to lead Chelsea to the Premier League title under Carlo Ancelotti.

“It is strange to see him managing United,” the 36-year-old was quoted by the Mirror. “But I always wish Jose the best as he is a very good person. I know he wants to be successful and he is at one of the top clubs, where he always should be.”

Malouda added: “He should never have left a top club like Chelsea, but that is the manager’s life.”

Manchester United is a good fit for Jose Mourinho

The Frenchman felt that the DNA of Manchester United complements that of their new manager and with him at the helm and the players they have got in the transfer window, will help them become one of the top teams in England.

“They have top winners from the manager through to the players. People with great character. They are not scared of pressure and maybe that is what was missing.”

The Frenchman also feels that Chelsea under Antonio Conte will again be a force to reckon with. Speaking of his former club, Malouda felt the club is in safe hands and opined that Conte “is a good coach, too — very competitive and will get the best out of the squad.”
