Manchester United continued their resurgence with a thoroughly professional performance against Tony Pulis’ West Bromwich Albion on Saturday evening. The Hawthorns has been a difficult stadium to visit this season but there was no indication of that as Jose Mourinho’s men dominated proceedings from start to finish with Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic scoring in either half to secure a 2-0 victory.

United players, instead of trudging back to the dressing room after the win, walked to the away section of supporters and threw their jerseys into the stands to the Manchester United faithful who had travelled to watch their team in action.

Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho revealed that it had been his idea to order the players to throw their jerseys into the crowd to spread Christmas cheer amongst the fans and thank them for their support. The Portuguese manager said, “I told them to do that. It's Christmas time. For a fan, a shirt coming from a game with sweat means a lot.”

Speaking about how this was a better way to give away used shirts, Mourinho said, “For them, it's just one more shirt. Probably, they will arrive in the dressing room and give it to the kit man or give to a friend or a friend from West Brom.”

He also emphasised what shirts meant for the club faithful saying that he thought it meant a lot to the fans and while it was a pity that every fan could not get a shirt, he thought that it was a great feeling for those who managed to get hold of one.

Ibrahimovic's brace means that he is now on fifteen goals for the season and has scored eleven of them in the Premier League. The Swede is also on a hot streak of sorts, scoring 10 in his last nine appearances, spearheading Manchester United’s climb up the table.

United have slowly been climbing up the table after a disastrous October where they failed to win four games in a row. Their latest win puts them level on points with fifth-placed Spurs who face Burnley tonight.

The Red Devils are also only three points behind fourth-placed Manchester City in the race for the Champions League spots. Pep Guardiola’s men face Arsenal in a blockbuster Premier League showdown later tonight.
