In an interview with the official Chelsea Football Club magazine, Chelsea’s newest capture from this summer transfer window spoke about his role in the team, and his ambition this season.

On signing for Chelsea

The French international forward completed his move believed to be worth £10.5million from Queens Park Rangers to Chelsea, putting pen to paper on a four-year deal.

“I feel very happy and very proud. When I heard Chelsea wanted to sign me I said ‘let’s go’ straight away because they are one of the best clubs in the world. “I wanted to play in the Champions League this season, so that was another of my motivations for coming here. I know that Chelsea can win the Champions League this season because there is so much quality in the squad. The first thing to aim for is winning titles.”

His position in the team

“I’m a striker, but the thing is I can adapt myself for any situation. I have played on the left and the right side in the past, so I know I can play anywhere in the attacking positions. It’s up to the manager where he decides to put me. The fans are going to judge what kind of striker I am. I am quick and I can score some goals, but I can progress a lot in so many things, so that’s why I’m here, to learn and learn fast.”

On Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho

“I spoke with the manager. He is very clever and he knows exactly what he wants. He has targets for me and I have a target for myself as well. Everybody wants the best, so the discussion was really good. I know he can get the best out of a player and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

On his competition with Diego Costa and Didier Drogba

“They are two big strikers, so that is another thing that will help me switch on, because I have to be at that level. So, for me, the pressure is there, but now I will just try to do my best and not put too much pressure on myself because I know what I can do and what we can do as a team. I think it’s normal when you play for a big team like Chelsea to have many good opportunities as an attacking player. We have two great strikers here already and, if I want to be in the team, I have to play at a very high level.”

On the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge

“I remember the amazing atmosphere at Stamford Bridge when I played there for Marseille. The stadium was completely full and the fans made a lot of noise, shouting and screaming all game. The fans and the atmosphere from that game is a very good memory for me. I can’t wait to play my first game at Stamford Bridge now.”

On joining the coveted list of French internationals to have represented Chelsea

Upon signing for Chelsea, Remy joined the elite list of French internationals who have donned the Blue shirt with the likes of Didier Deschamps , Marcel Desailly, Frank Leboeuf and Nicolas Anelka being a few of them.

“I’m very proud and I’m going to try to follow these French guys. There have been so many famous French players at Chelsea who have done really well and I’m going to do my best. I think the supporters are going to enjoy watching me and we can have some good moments together.”
