Real Madrid duo Luka Modric and Toni Kroos were #17 with one vote each, followed by Dimitri Payet also on #17 with one vote. Bayern Munich star striker Robert Lewandowski was #16 with three votes. Former Juventus teammates Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba were tied at #14 with four votes each.
#13 – Zlatan Ibrahimovic with five votes, the Manchester United striker features in the Top 20 in a Ballon d’Or list for the thirteenth time. The now retired Swedish footballer has 40 goals for his national team, and top scorer in Ligue 1 with 38 goals.
#12 – Rui Patricio with six votes, is the first goalkeeper to be featured in the list. The European Championship winning goalkeeper, has fifty eight caps for Portugal and was instrumental in Portugal lifting the cup.
#11 – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with seven votes ensures African representation in the top 15 of the Ballon d’Or list. The Borussia Dortmund striker has scored 19 goals in 20 appearances so far this season.
#9 – Gianluigi Buffon, the Italian world cup winner has broken into the top 10 of the Ballon d’Or top ten for the first time in his career. He has had a staggering few seasons with Juventus and guided Italy to the quarters of the European Championship.
