Fielding is an area of much importance in cricket, especially in the modern day game. The advent of T20 cricket has enhanced the emphasis on fielding even further and more or less every team, right from the top international teams to the lower rung domestic sides employ a fielding coach nowadays.

The standards have definitely improved with the number of brilliant catches in the recently concluded ODI series between England and Australia. Jason Roy and Steven Finn both produced outstanding catches during the 3rd ODI but their efforts were overshadowed by Glenn Maxwell’s miracle catch at the boundary line during the fourth ODI.

Australia have been setting the standards in fielding for a long time and it’s evident that a lot of work has gone behind it. Recently appointed Southern Redbacks head coach Jamie Siddons is looking to carry on the legacy with his innovative post-training ritual challenge for his players, one the team has now passed successfully.

Siddons was a prolific batsman back in his playing days. In fact, he is the third highest run-scorer in Sheffield Shield history but he was equally well known for his athletic fielding. So no wonder he came up with the challenge for his players were they were to successfully complete two lengths of consecutive catches on the half-volley without a single fumble.

Aimed at being a fun session for the squad, the players had been attempting at completing the same ever since being implemented as a routine post the training session and finally the Redbacks were able to achieve it, sparking wild celebrations from the entire set of players.

Bowling coach Rob Cassell filmed the entire session where the players successfully completed the challenge on their third attempt.
