Bopanna drops two places to 13th in doubles rankings

India’s Rohan Bopanna dropped two places to No. 13 in the ATP doubles rankings, released on Monday, after failing to defend his Madrid Open title along with Romanian partner Florin Mergea.

He needs to be in the top-10 before the June 6 cut-off date to get a direct entry into the Rio Olympic Games, where he will have the luxury of choosing a partner to compete in the elite tournament.

Leander Paes, who won his first Challenger title in 16 years in Busan partnering Sam Groth, moved up to 54, a gain of three places.

The top seeds beat second seeded Thai twins Sanchai Ratiwatana and Sonchat Ratiwatana 4-6, 6-1, 10-7.

The next best Indians in the doubles are Purav Raja (106), who climbed a place, and Saketh Myneni (116).

In singles, out of action Yuki Bhambri dropped seven places to 129 while Myneni lost three and is ranked 141.

Ramkumar Ramanathan is ranked 240 and the struggling Somdev Devvarman is at 316 after falling two places.
