9 patients die daily at India's top government hospital

Nine patients die on an average daily at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences while undergoing treatment, according to a Right To Information query.

Dr Siddhartha Satpathi from Department of Hospital Management said that in the last one year, from April 2013 to March 2014, the Cardio-Neuro Centre at the AIIMS admitted total 14,083 patients. 3,394 of them succumbed to their ailments while undergoing treatment.

Out of total 1,410 patients admitted in faculty 1 of the Medicine Department, 226 sick people perished and of 1,010 patients received by the faculty two, 251 passed away in the last 12 months.

In the Nephrology Department of the prestigious institute, 151 of the 8,139 patients breathed their last in the corresponding period whereas in Gastroenterology Department 448 people died out of total 2,674 undergoing treatment there.

Of the 1,672 patients overseen by the Neurology Department, 67 were killed by their diseases.
