Trucks detained on either side of the LoC following a drug haul from POK last month, on Wednesday, crossed over ending a month long standoff.
“Yes, the 48 POK trucks which were held up at the trade facilitation centre at Salamabad left for Muzaffarabad this evening and have already crossed the Aman Setu bridge,” said Ghulam Ahmad Khawaja, deputy commissioner Baramulla.
He said that the 27 trucks which were detained by POK authorities have also left for Salamabad and are expected anytime.
The standoff ended after rounds of negotiations between the Indian and Pakistani authorities in the past one month.
The standoff began on January 17 after authorities recovered 114 kg of narcotics from a POK truck. The driver of the truck was immediately arrested and the truck detained.
In retaliation the POK authorities detained the entire fleet of Kashmir trucks that had crossed over with merchandise.
The truck driver has been remanded to police custody by a local court.
The ending of the standoff, which led to suspension of the cross LoC trade, has raised the prospect of its resumption.
