A police guard posted at the residence of a senior Jammu and Kashmir minister has fled along with 2 automatic rifles and large quantity of ammunition, according to a senior police officer.
He said Constable Nisar Ahmad Mir went missing from his duty of guarding the minister’s residence on Friday afternoon and still remains untraced.
The constable who belongs to south Kashmir Pulwama district was detailed to guard the private residence of senior Peoples Democratic Party minister Altaf Bukhari who holds the portfolio of roads and buildings.
The minister’s residence is located in Sheikhbagh locality at a stone’s throw from the city centre, Lal Chowk.
A police spokesman in a statement said, “One policeman namely Nisar Ahmad Mir, No. 221/Sec and a resident of Karimabad, Pulwama is missing from his place of posting at Sheikhabad, Srinagar along with some arms and ammunition since yesterday. Police has taken cognizance and started investigation.”
Sources said that Nisar's three village friends are also missing from their homes. A massive hunt has been launched to nab the constable, according to sources.
