Amit Sadh discusses his new film.
After Kai Po Che, the careers of its actors Sushant Singh Rajput and Rajkummar Rao reached new heights.
Amit Sadh, who played a pivotal role, unfortunately, did not enjoy the same success.
In fact, he was out of work after his 2015 film Guddu Rangeela.
Later, he managed to get decent roles in the Salman Khan-starrer Sultan and Sonakshi Sinha-starrer Akira.
This Friday, he stars opposite Taapsee Pannu in Running Shaadi.
Rediff.com's Patcy N asks him whether the good times have arrived.
What did you think of when Running Shaadi came to you?
I loved the script. What I liked most is the quirkiness of the film, about eloping and getting married. There is a beautiful love story, which is naïve, immature, honest and cute.

You play Ram Bharose, who is Matric (Standard 10) fail. In real life too, you gave up education. How much did you identify with the character?
I basically play myself because I was thrown out of school.
But actually, I don’t identify with this character because there is nothing else that is common between us. It was a big challenge for me.
What I liked about Bharose is his honesty, courage and dependability.
Amit Roy is a first-time director.
Amit calls himself a debutant director but he knows so much about films. He has shot Sarkar and Sarkar 2, Dum Maaro Dum... and he has done many ads.
He is one of the coolest guys I have known. He is a rockstar, a great director.
How was Shoojit Sircar as a producer?
We are very lucky that we are mentored by him and the experience and cinema he stands for. I am very grateful to dada for giving me this opportunity, for backing our talent and giving us the paraphernalia to make this film.
He gave us full liberty. He came on the sets only once because he has full faith in the director, the actors and the kind of films we make.
What was it like working with Taapsee?
Taapsee is my favourite. I love her!
Was it frustrating when you did not get work? Was it tough financially?
Yes, it was frustrating but I have put all that behind. I am in a very good place now. I am getting great parts and great movies. I have work and am paying my rent on time. I am very happy!
We last saw you in Sultan and Akira. It looks like your good times have started.
I hope so; it's about time.
