A day after the Golden Globes comes the nominations for the BAFTAs, the British Oscars so to speak.

The Globes set the tone for the awards season so it isn't surprising that the BAFTA nominations follow a similar script.

For the first time in 12 years the BAFTAs will not be hosted by Stephen Fry.

The droll and funny Fry has retired from the fray and says he will watch the BAFTAs on the telly henceforth at his home.

British actress Joanna Lumley -- who by the way was born in Srinagar a year before Indian Independence -- has been handed over the baton. If Joanna does well at this year's BAFTAs on February 18, she may be asked to stick around next year.
