The Samvat year 2070 ended on a cheerful note with Sensex on Wednesday surging over 211 points to end at one-month high on renewed optimism after Modi government announced a slew of economic reforms and hopes of the ongoing festive season giving boost to corporate earnings.

“Equity markets have rallied over 25 per cent since last Diwali, largely fuelled by improving corporate earnings, expectations of tough reforms from the new government and reviving macroeconomic variables,” says an ICICI Direct Research report.

The markets have welcomed Samvat 2071 on a positive note. The Sensex gained for the fifth straight session on Thursday to end the customary 'Muhurat' trading session up 64 points at 26,851 and the 50-share Nifty closed 19 points at 8,015.
