Bajaj's 'fun' bikes!

The Pulsar 200 AS and 150 AS have been positioned at the youth who want practicality on weekdays and the fun factor on weekends, writes Indian motoring website MotorBeam.

Bajaj Pulsar AS 200

Lifting the curtains off its highly awaited offerings, Bajaj Auto has finally launched the Pulsar Adventure Sport (AS) range of motorcycles and is available in two variants -- the Pulsar 200 AS and the Pulsar 150 AS. Targeted at the youth, Bajaj says the new Pulsar AS range is a practical offering for day-to-day city commutes along with performance and fun for the weekend as well.

Getting the new half-faired styling, the Pulsar 200 AS has been priced at Rs 91,550 while the 150 AS has been priced at Rs 79,000 (introductory prices, ex-showroom Delhi) respectively.

Both the Pulsar 200 AS and 150 AS have the same dimensions, measuring 2070 mm in length, 804 mm in width and 1205 mm in height with a wheelbase of 1363 mm.

The ground clearance though stands at 170 mm on the 150 AS and 167 mm on the 200 AS. Based on a perimeter frame that made its debut on the 200 NS, the Pulsar 200 AS and 150 AS get a half-fairing with a tall front windscreen for enhanced touring comfort, a single projector headlamp, split seats and a conventional rear mudguard (no tyre hugger).

Suspension duties are performed by telescopic forks at the front and a rear monoshock setup at the rear on both bikes.

In terms of powertrain, the Bajaj Pulsar 150 AS gets a 149.5cc single-cylinder, four-stroke, four-valve DTSi engine producing 17 PS of power at 9500 RPM and 13 Nm of torque at 7500 RPM, paired to a 5-speed gearbox.

The Pulsar 200 AS uses a 199.5cc single-cylinder, triple-spark, carbureted enginem churning out 23.5 PS of power at 9500 RPM and 18.3 Nm of torque at 8000 RPM, paired to a 6-speed gearbox.

Braking performance on the 150 AS comes from the 240 mm front disc and a 130 mm rear drum, whereas the 200 AS gets a 280 mm front disc and a 230 mm disc at the rear.

Bajaj Pulsar AS 150

Identical in appearance, the Bajaj Pulsar 150 AS comes with a kerb weight of 143 kgs while the 200 AS weighs 153 kgs. The Pulsar brand has been extremely important for Bajaj Auto that has managed to form a cult in recent times.

Having kick-started the sports bike segment in the country, the new Adventure Sport series brings a new direction to the brand as it is looking to explore more possibilities after the street-fighter and full-faired body styles.
