Having blasted quickfire centuries against Gujarat Lions last week, Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers lead the MVP rankings in the IPL.

Srinivas Bhogle and Purnendu Maji analyse the players’ performance in Rediff.com's Most Valuable Players ratings.

Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers are in rampaging form.

Kohli still tops the MVPI table, but his good mate from Royal Challengers Bangalore AB de Villiers is catching up!

The Indian run-machine has scored almost 140 runs more, but leads de Villiers by a MVPI of just 50 because of the South African's staggering strike rate of 172.

Among batsmen who have scored 200 runs or more, only Krunal Pandya (192.6) has a strike rate higher than that of de Villiers.

Yusuf Pathan (165.6), David Warner (155.8), Steve Smith (153.4), Kieron Pollard (149.2) and Kohli (148.1) are other 200-plus scoring batsmen with high strike rates.

Among bowlers who have taken 10 or more wickets, Mustafizur Rehman has the best economy rate of 6.7, followed by Chris Morris at 6.8. All the other10-plus wicket-takers have much higher economy rates over seven.

As the ongoing ninth edition of the IPL has progressed, runs have become easier to score.

We have therefore tweaked our formula to assume a par score of 160 instead of 150, and, consequently ,every wicket is valued at 16 'runs' instead of 15 'runs'.

The table below indicates the MVPI and the PVI for the top 100 players in IPL9:

(The data has been updated after the 47th match of the IPL between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils on May 15, 2016)
