Kabul, Feb 2 : Two women were killed and five persons were injured in an explosion in Afghanistan's Ghani province on Friday, an official said.

The incident occurred in the morning after a vehicle carrying seven persons was struck by an improvised explosive device in Cherli village in Gellan district, said a provincial government spokesman.

The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital.

Taliban and Islamic State militants have been using roadside bombs and landmines to target security forces, but the lethal home-made weapons also inflict casualties on civilians.

Some 2,640 civilians were killed and over 5,370 injured in conflict-related incidents in the first nine months of 2017, according to the UN mission.
