New Delhi, Jan 19 : Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Friday asked officials to form a task force for a coordinated fight against drug and alcohol abuse.

Baijal gave the direction during a meeting here to review measures taken to curb the menace of drug and liquor abuse, particularly among youngsters.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash, Commissioner of Police Amulya Patnaik among other top officials.

"Lt. Governor directed for constitution of a task force to have a coordinated and structured mechanism to integrate efforts for de-addiction, skilling and rehabilitation," an official statement said.

Baijal also urged to take up regular mass campaigns in media and suggested engagement with educational institutions and experts to sensitise people, especially youngsters, to make them aware of ill-effects of drugs.

"The Lt. Governor also stressed upon the need to effectively crack down on the demand and supply side of drug users and sellers, and sharing of intelligence information among different agencies for effective action," it said.

Baijal directed all agencies concerned to look for out-of-the-box solutions to eliminate drug abuse.

"He suggested the proposed task force to come up with some end-to-end solutions for a drug addict that not only get him de-addicted from drugs but also ensure his complete reintegration with society through provision of such skills that facilitate him to get a meaningful job that restores his dignity," the statement said.
